Four More Years: A Closer Look

A lot can happen in four years. A student can earn a high school diploma or a bachelor’s degree; the world can experience a leap year; and of course a U.S. President can complete a term in office. There’s something special about four-year cycles. Even the world recognizes this with key sporting events like the World Cup and the Olympic Games being held — every four years.

With all the recent focus on our country’s elections and upcoming inauguration, it should make us consider what the next four years will look like in our individual lives. Like President-Elect Joe Biden selecting Kamala Harris as the first woman and person of color to serve as Vice President, what historic events will we look to achieve in our next four years?

Yes, some things are beyond our control and only God fully knows the future. But there are things we can plan for, work towards, and anticipate with the same enthusiasm as a student looking forward to the ultimate reward of graduation or even a recently ousted President looking forward to another chance – in four more years.

God values the cycles of four as well, giving us four seasons in a year, four directions on a compass, and even four Synoptic Gospels about the life of Jesus Christ (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John).

While Trump spends the next four years plotting a return to the White House, we should be spending the next four years securing the affairs of our house. We should work so diligently during this time that financially we’re okay no matter who’s naturally in charge. We should position ourselves so we’re no longer caught off guard by a sudden downturn in the economy but instead positioned to benefit from it.

If you’re like me E-Fam, it unfortunately took COVID-19 and a turbulent government to push me into being tired enough of living hand-to-mouth to really do something about it. It took the turmoil of 2020 to push me to spend less and save more, and to pursue my true passion and finally start to live my best life. However, 2020 was just the beginning of this pursuit. There’s so much more waiting for us ahead. But what can we do to take hold of the next wave of opportunity?

1. Cast a vision. Yes, the ever popular vision boards can be part of this because they physically put an image of what we desire in our eye view on a daily basis. Yet, seeing something on paper means nothing if we don’t connect with it in our hearts. We need to see it in our creative minds. God created us to create. The vision is just the starting gate of what we have to do and what we desire to see. (Habakkuk 2:2-3; Genesis 1:26-27)

2. Make a declaration. Once we can envision (see inwardly) the goals we want to see outwardly, we have to make our words match up with what we want to see. Declarations help our goals take root in our hearts. We have to put goals before our eyes to get it in our hearts, so they come out of our mouths! The things we speak about in faith will eventually become the things we see. (Job 22:28; Romans 10:10, 17)

3. Take a step. Vision and declaration activate our faith, but faith without works is dead (James 2:18-26). If we want to manifest something new, we have to do something new. God wants to bless us. There is nothing He can’t do. However, like we mentioned before, He created us to be creative. He wants us to take an active role in the process. He wants us to take a step toward what we want to see in our future.

Maybe your future goal is broader than financial security. Perhaps your hope for the next four years is that your family and marriage are stronger, that you have a deeper understanding of God, or even a desire to start a new venture to help your community. Whatever it is, now is the time to cast the vision, declare what you want to see, and take a step toward it. Let’s not wait! Four more years will be here before we know it.

  1. Amen like u Minister Stacy 2020 has made me think more clearly about what I want to do and how I am to get there.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness and clarity.

  2. I enjoyed reading your blog because your writing style simply flows. Your pointed out the number “4” into our living life. That after “4” it is completed. Then look back and look over ones life. Taking these smaller intervals years are better for me since I getting older! Keep on writing for 2021!

    1. Thanks Luandra for your well-wishes and support! Yes, the number four has so much meaning biblically and in our everyday lives. Sometimes it’s the smaller steps forward that make the most impact.

  3. You’re are so right. My 1st granddaughter was born four years ago, January 10. End of January 2? will be my fourth-year as a member of VKMI. I started the doctoral program at ACE, four-years ago, will be graduating in July 2021. 2020 was a challenging year, but God brought me through. I have so much to be thankful for. Thank you Minister Stacy, stay safe, be blessed.

    1. DeJ, look at all the blessings surrounding your life! This four-year cycle has proven true for you, and I pray so for so many others. All the best to you and the entire eFam. I hope we all make the most use of this time — no matter how things look.
